First Year of Motherhood..

Well, well…. My baby has turned 1 last April. It hasn’t been a good year for her so far. No birthday party as planned, no Eid, no vacations and no meetings or gatherings as we are in the circuit breaker (CB) mode aka mild lockdown since early April due to the Covid-19. Everything has to be cancelled. Hotels, entertainments, everything but the essentials have been closed. Luckily I got most of my refunds back. After much much thinking, I decided to hold a private birthday cake smash for her as a small celebration. It was chaotic but at least we did something and got some photos for keepsake. I am glad that we actually made it happen.

So anyway, allow me to share some of the things I’ve learned so far during my first year of motherhood..

No more staying up and staying out late night… (Actually you CAN stay up late but at the expense of your health)

Holidays will never be the same again.. EVER!

The time you take to get ready whenever you’re going out will increase tremendously.

Going for a holiday? Double and triple check your list. There’s bound for things that you forget to add into your already bulky and heavy luggage.. (Yes, baby stuff will occupy most of the space now instead of urs)

Your hands (and eyes) are always busy

“Me” time is almost non-existent unless baby is sleeping and sometimes when that time comes, either your mind goes blank or your eyes will just shut down

The bathroom is your solace and time taken inside gets longer because you were stealing for yourself some “me” time

Everyone will give you (unwanted) advices but only you know what’s best..

People can mother shame you all they want but you don’t have to care.. you know how to handle it best and you know yourself even better than anyone else

Play deaf when needed so you can easily shake off unwanted remarks/comments.. It goes a long way

Maternal instinct – never take it lightly

Breastfeeding is a wonderful thing but it can be a bitch. Period.

You can buy all the toys for them but they will end up obsessing with your things

Innocent, harmless things suddenly becomes hazardous

You CAN survive on minimal sleep

Everything has a phase.. you CAN and you WILL get through it

Never compare your baby to another.. Some may progress fast, some may be slow and it’s OKAY

They will copy you so be mindful of what you say and do

The first year will pass by faster than you can konmari your whole house so enjoy every second of it!

Happy 1st Birthday Lil Z!
